4 cups fresh blackberries 3/4 cup granulated sugar 1 tbsp lemon juice 1 cup all-purpose flour 1 tsp baking powder 1/4 tsp salt 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted 1 cup milk 1 tsp vanilla extract 1/2 cup brown sugar for topping
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking dish.
In a mixing bowl, toss the blackberries with granulated sugar and lemon juice. Let sit for 10 minutes.
In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
Stir in the melted butter, milk, and vanilla extract until a smooth batter forms.
Pour the batter into the greased baking dish.
Spoon the macerated blackberries evenly over the batter. Do not stir.
Sprinkle brown sugar over the top for a caramelized finish.
Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the batter comes out clean.
Allow to cool slightly before serving.
