Instructions
In a saucepan, whisk together sugar, cocoa powder, and cornstarch until well combined.
Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and begins to boil.
Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract, butter, and chopped dark chocolate (if using) until smooth and glossy.
Pour the pudding into serving cups. Cover with plastic wrap, pressing it directly onto the surface to prevent a skin from forming. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours until set.
