Equipment

Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 pods vanilla bean
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract optional

Instructions

  • Cut the vanilla beans lengthwise and scrape out the seeds using the back of a knife.
  • Combine the sugar, water, and vanilla pods with the seeds in a small saucepan.
  • Simmer over low heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar dissolves completely and the mixture thickens slightly, about 10-12 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and strain the syrup into a bottle or jar, discarding the vanilla pods. Let cool before using.

Notes

  • Beans & Pods: Use both seeds and pods for full flavor.
  • Sugar Swap: Try brown sugar for a richer taste.
  • Simmer Gently: Avoid boiling to keep the syrup smooth.
  • Storage: Refrigerate in a sealed jar for up to 2 weeks.
  • Uses: Ideal for coffee, tea, pancakes, or cocktails.
