Equipment

  • Saucepan for making churro dough
  • Piping bag with a large star tip
  • Deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pan
  • Slotted spoon for removing fried churros
  • Paper towels for draining excess oil
  • Small bowl for cinnamon sugar coating
  • Strawberry filling injector or piping bag with a narrow tip

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter cut into pieces
  • 0.25 tsp salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour sifted
  • 1 large egg room temperature
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups vegetable oil for frying
  • 0.5 cup strawberry jam for filling
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar for coating
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon for coating
  • 1 cup whipped cream for topping
  • 0.25 cup fresh strawberries chopped, for garnish

Instructions

  • In a saucepan over medium heat, bring water, sugar, butter, and salt to a boil. Remove from heat and stir in flour until a smooth dough forms.
  • Let the dough cool slightly, then mix in the egg and vanilla extract until fully combined.
  • Transfer dough to a piping bag with a large star tip. Pipe 6-inch strips onto a parchment-lined tray.
  • Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer to 375°F (190°C). Fry churros in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  • Remove churros with a slotted spoon, drain on paper towels, then roll in a cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  • Using a filling injector or piping bag with a narrow tip, inject strawberry jam into each churro.
  • Top with whipped cream and fresh strawberries before serving.

Notes

  • Optional Equipment: A thermometer helps maintain the correct frying temperature.
  • Customization: Swap the strawberry jam for raspberry or blueberry filling.
  • Storage: Best enjoyed fresh. Reheat in an oven at 350°F (175°C) for crispness.
  • Serving Tip: Serve with additional whipped cream for extra indulgence.
